Rock 101 music program in Los Angeles for kids and beginners
Rock 101
Ages 8-13

Rock 101 is one of School of Rock Fairfax District LA's top programs for kids and beginners. Students have one weekly group rehearsal where they learn to play classic rock songs that have been simplified for beginner musicians. Additionally, Rock 101 students in Fairfax District LA have a weekly private music lesson with an instructor who helps them learn the concepts and skills behind their performance songs.

The Path to Take the Stage

Our music programs for kids in Los Angeles are designed to get students on stage performing, with the goal of building strong musical proficiency. Younger students at School of Rock Fairfax District LA who have participated in the Rookies program can move to our Rock 101 music program once they’re ready. Additionally, students (typically ages 8 to 13-years-old) can begin Rock 101 without any prior experience. The goal of this rock program is to quickly develop a basic competence on students’ chosen instruments before moving on to our famous Performance Program.

The Performance Program at School of Rock Fairfax District LA is our hallmark music program, where tens of thousands of students enroll each year. It consists of a weekly group rehearsal where kids and teens learn by playing rock music's most iconic songs with a band composed of their peers. Students are assigned songs and parts that are tailored to them based on their age, experience and ability to learn new skills and concepts. Students then work through their parts in weekly private music lessons, refining the skills and concepts that those songs introduce. The goal of this curriculum is to prepare kids and teens for live performances. Every few months, School of Rock Fairfax District LA Performance Program students take the stage and play at local Los Angeles music venues in front of a live audience.

The Path to Take the Stage

School of Rock Fairfax District LA's music programs for kids and teens are designed to inspire by getting students on stage and performing. All of our other music education programs focus on readying students for our famous Performance Program. This is where students develop incredible musical skills. Performance Program students have often gone through our Rock 101 program first or have some previous basic music experience. These young musicians will have custom development plans outlined by their instructors with key concepts reinforced during private lessons and group rehearsals, all with the goal of performing live at a Los Angeles music venue.

Rookies music program for children in Los Angeles
Rookies
Ages 6-7

At School of Rock Fairfax District LA, our music program for children with no previous musical experience (typically ages 6 to 7-years-old) is called Rookies. Rookies students have one weekly group music lesson where they learn fundamentals like chords, rhythm and song structure. Kids get to learn and experiment with multiple instruments so they can later decide which one they ultimately want to continue pursuing in Rock 101.

The Path to Take the Stage

All of our music programs are designed to inspire students to learn and develop a strong musical proficiency. At School of Rock Fairfax District LA, younger students who are not ready for a more comprehensive program like Rock 101 can start in Rookies. Additionally, students who have completed the Little Wing program will progress into the Rookies music program. No prior musical experience is needed for Rookies. Once your child is ready for private music lessons (typically older than first or second graders), they will graduate into our Rock 101 program.

At School of Rock Fairfax District LA our Little Wing music program for preschoolers and toddlers teaches students foundational music skills by playing games and participating in other interactive musical activities. Little Wing students have one weekly group music lesson in which they use classic rock songs to learn about rhythm, song structure, melody and dynamics through play.

The Path to Take the Stage

The Little Wing music program is the first step in a young musician's journey. At School of Rock Fairfax District LA, toddlers and preschoolers who show an interest in music should start with Little Wing. As they get older, they will progress into the Rookies program, followed by Rock 101 and the Performance Program.

Songwriting
Age 12 and over

Our Songwriting program for kids and teens teaches the fundamentals of songwriting, arrangement and music theory, and helps students compose original works.  At School of Rock Fairfax District LA, songwriting students receive one weekly private lesson where they learn concepts, technique and theory on an instrument of their choice. These principles are then applied in a weekly group lesson where students work together on songwriting exercises and lyrical workshops.  Every few months, Songwriting students take the stage to perform or band together to record their original songs.

The Path to Take the Stage

Our Songwriting program for kids and teens in Los Angeles is designed to create musical proficiency through the creation of original music. Students at School of Rock Fairfax District LA who have completed our Rock 101 program can move to our Songwriting program once they’re ready. Additionally, new students who have prior experience with and basic knowledge of an instrument can also begin Songwriting. The program culminates with a live showcase where students perform their original compositions in bands at a local music venue. Students taking the Songwriting Program online will remotely record their original songs to produce a demo of the class's music.

At School of Rock Fairfax District LA, our students can take online, one-on-one music instruction from the comfort of their homes. We call this program School of Rock Remote. This online music program contains weekly one-on-one instruction conducted by our expert School of Rock instructors in a safe virtual lesson room.
 
Students will receive their training using our proprietary education program, The School of Rock Method™, which couples live video lessons with our proprietary Method App™, SongFirst Approach™ and Method Books™.

School of Rock Fairfax District LA's Adult Program is for students over 18 years old who are looking to either improve their musical proficiency or pick up an instrument with no prior musical experience. As with most School of Rock music programs, the Adult Program uses a performance-based music education approach. This means the curriculum focuses on learning music concepts and applying them in a live performance setting. Our Adult Music Program includes one weekly private music lesson and a weekly group rehearsal. Every student at School of Rock Fairfax District LA is placed in a band of fellow adults and then assigned specific songs as a way of learning key music concepts and skills. Adult students then take the stage to play at a live show in Los Angeles.

The Path to Take the Stage

All of our music programs are designed to inspire by getting students on stage and performing, with the goal of building strong musical proficiency along the way. The School of Rock Fairfax District LA Adult Program is open to all experience levels and each student will follow a customized learning plan developed by their instructor. Adult students will work together during rehearsal to prepare for a live performance at a real rock venue in Los Angeles.

The School of Rock Fairfax District LA House Band music program gives students under 18 the opportunity to join a gigging band composed of fellow musicians from their school. These students perform additional live shows throughout the year. All students in the Performance Program have the opportunity to audition for a spot in School of Rock Fairfax District LA's House Band. Once selected, House Band members become leaders in their School of Rock community and perform live shows at CA rock venues throughout the year.

The Path to Take the Stage

Performance is the core of School of Rock's educational approach. Therefore, we create additional opportunities for students to perform on stages throughout Los Angeles and the rest of CA. The House Band music program allows each school's most talented students the opportunity to join a band and play routinely in front of live audiences. Once a member, students will gain real music experience associated with gigging musicians and will become leaders and mentors inside the School of Rock community.

Age 17 and Under

The School of Rock AllStars Tour takes the very best students from around the world and sends them on a nationwide summer tour across the United States. Less than 1% of School of Rock students are selected each year to represent School of Rock as an AllStar. All Performance Program students are eligible to audition for this prestigious program. The intensive audition process starts off with video submissions followed by live auditions. Once selected, AllStar students will have an authentic touring experience including traveling on a tour bus, doing tour publicity and starring in nightly performances at famous venues and festivals during a two-week tour.

Becoming an AllStar is the highest level of achievement for a School of Rock student. They play on legendary stages large and small, including The Knitting Factory, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, The Troubadour and Lollapalooza. AllStar students often go on to have accomplished careers in the music industry. Former AllStars have gone on to become touring artists, star in Broadway musicals, get signed to record deals, become finalists on talent competitions like "The Voice" and "American Idol" and have other notable roles in the music industry.

General Manager Adam Timmerman
Adam Timmerman
General Manager
A 2009 Berklee College of Music graduate, Adam started playing drums at age 8 in his garage in Northern New York. By the age of 13 he was a founding member of a pop punk band playing small clubs and venues throughout upstate NY.

After moving to Los Angeles in 2010 Adam joined the rock group Cosmic Suckerpunch (later Shadow the Wild) and toured playing in the Outside Lands, Bonaroo, SXSW, and Life is Beautiful festivals.

The band had a brief bout of success finding their songs played on radio stations in Colorado and New Hampshire as well as college radio stations across the country. In late 2017 a song Adam cowrote, “Twin Flame”, was featured in the Crackle show “StartUp”.

By 2018 the band had dissolved to focus on other projects. While most of his time is dedicated to teaching, Adam still works regularly as a hired musician in the Los Angeles area.

Mia Lin is a multi-instrumentalist from Carlsbad, California, and a UCLA graduate. She found her love for music by playing guitar as a teenager and also enjoys playing bass, keys, and singing. She writes, produces, and plays in her band MyVeronica and plays in multiple other bands around Los Angeles.
Drum Teacher Anthony Burulcich

Originally from Long Island, New York, Anthony Burulcich first began playing drums at the age of eight. He went on to graduate from Berklee College of Music before becoming a founding member of the band The Bravery which put out three albums on Island Records and went gold in the UK. He has recorded for top artists such as Shakira, Santigold, and Mr. Little Jeans. He has toured with Morrissey, Weezer, and White Sea among other bands. Anthony is also a songwriter, producer, and mixer whose songs have been featured in TV and film. Before teaching at School of Rock, Anthony taught privately for many years. Anthony has been teaching at the school for three years.

Drum Teacher
Dusty Durston is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and artist who picked up his first pair of drumsticks over 20 years ago. Having written, recorded, and performed music since 13, Dusty now performs his latest solo material at venues across Los Angeles with a live trio that includes his younger brother on bass.

Dusty’s formal education includes degrees from both NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and Berklee College of Music. Professionally, he has worked extensively within the industry, landing positions at Universal Music Group, MNRK Music Group, and Juliet Records.

Dusty is incredibly excited by the opportunity to cultivate and nurture in his students a shared love for all of the magic music has to offer!

Chris Dee is a drum teacher and recent Berklee College of Music graduate from Cambridge, MA. Ever since his older brother introduced him to drums at age 10, he’s been looking for any way to stay behind the set. Projects of his include Pink Palace and Church Burglars, both having played at large venues in their cities of origin. Chris wants to share his passion for music like his brother did for him with as many kids as possible, while continuing to tour in bands.

Christopher is a multi-instrumentalist from Paris, France. After graduating from Berklee College of Music in 2019, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue performance as a multi-instrumentalist and music director for up-and-coming rock and pop artists.

His dad introduced him to the bass guitar at the age of 9 through the music of The Police and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Chris currently performs and records with artists in Los Angeles alongside teaching.

Desmond is a vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter raised in Orange County, California. He began singing at the age of 3 and playing piano at the age of 7. Very early in his development, Desmond became infatuated with a wide variety of genres, with influences ranging from artists such as Sara Bareilles, Stevie Wonder, and Ryan Tedder, all the way to artists like Linkin Park, Third Eye Blind, Jónsi, Taj Mahal, and many others.

After obtaining his degree in songwriting from Berklee College of Music, Desmond now focuses on sharing his love of music by exploring different genres and mastering different instruments as well as sharing his knowledge with others through the School of Rock Program. Aiming to always be a student, he hopes to learn something new even as he imparts his knowledge to others.

Dani Kardon is a singer-songwriter from Portland, Oregon. She went to Loyola University New Orleans to study music, but her musical education began long before at the School of Rock location in Portland.

Dani bounces around from one genre to another and is currently in a huge indie-folk phase. She likes any kind of music as long as it’s emotional. Feel free to come to her with any songwriting or editing needs!

Sandy Rizzo has extensive music management experience in rock n’ roll genres. She got her start in the industry working with the iconic band Aerosmith while she was based in Boston, becoming part of their management team and holding a variety of different positions learning all the ins and outs of the music industry.

Sandy's next venture came when she moved to the west coast and began a long career with famed rock manager Doc McGhee. Together they managed legendary bands such as Bon Jovi, KISS, Scorpions, Mötley Crüe, Megadeth, Skid Row, Caroline’s Spine, and many others. Once making a name for herself throughout the industry by honing her innate talents in management, touring, and production, Sandy found herself prepared to branch out and worked with other managers and artists. With the ever-changing face of the music industry, Sandy went out on her own and formed 18-Hour Management. She continues to consult directly with artists, managers, labels, and touring personnel.

Sandy and 18-Hour Management have been consulting on several national and international tours and managing the tour contracts for each band or client over the last several years. In 2016, Sandy was the first female manager inducted into the RockGodz Hall of Fame. She is now their General Manager and oversees all inductions and award events and ceremonies.

In addition, she also teaches at School of Rock Fairfax District LA as the Little Wing instructor, teaching 3-to-5-year-olds the basics of music including teaching them about the instruments and rock n’ roll music.

Stephen Grzenda is a multi-instrumentalist, producer, and mixing engineer from Scranton, Pennsylvania. He grew up playing in jam bands which evolved into his pursuit of a degree in Music Technology.

Through his multifaceted experience on the stage and in the studio, Stephen discovered his love for bass and keys in addition to guitar. He also plays in his own indie pop project around the Los Angeles area.

Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Mike's musical journey commenced when he picked up the drums at the tender age of 10. Remarkably, by age 12, he was already making his mark in the professional music circuit in Philadelphia.

At just 14 years old, Mike discovered a profound passion for songwriting and composition. To bring his creative visions to life, he undertook the ambitious task of teaching himself guitar and piano. His commitment to crafting music continued to evolve, culminating in his decision to pursue formal education in music at Berklee College.

In 2021, Mike embarked on a new chapter by relocating to Los Angeles to pursue his music career. There, he embarked on an ambitious project, single-handedly writing, recording, and producing the inaugural album for his band, Church Burglars, from the ground up.

Ramon Blanco is from Granada, Spain, and started his musical studies when he was 8 years old. He enrolled at the Music Conservatory in Granada where he studied music theory and classical guitar. He also earned a degree in Education from the University of Granada which helps him combine his two passions.

When he was 18, Ramon started working as a professional guitar player and composer in different bands and projects. He released two records: one with a band called Time, “Para bien o para mal” (2007), and the other with a band called Kronnen, “Salto al Vacio” (2008). He also toured throughout Spain for more than seven years with a band called Chasis, performing over 1,000 shows.

Ramon also worked with two theatre companies for two seasons where he was the principal guitar player in the musicals Jesus Christ Superstar and Rent. He moved to Los Angeles in 2010 and enrolled at the Musicians Institute, graduating in 2011 with an Associate of Arts degree in guitar.

Since his graduation, Ramon has worked as a session musician for Grammy Award-winning producers like Andres Torres, Sebastian Krys, and Brandon Friesen, and recording guitars for prestigious artists like Luis Fonsi, Good Guys In Black, Darkhorse Rising, and Hirsh. Ramon is sponsored by Gibson guitars, Reverend guitars, Dean Markley strings, Bogner amps, Ultimate Ears, and Kloth cables.

Ramon started his band Disciples Of Babylon in 2012, releasing two albums, “Welcome to Babylon” in 2014 and “The Rise and Fall of Babylon” in 2017. The band has garnered national and worldwide acclaim and has been featured on radio and media around the globe. He is currently working on many different projects, writing, performing, and recording for various artists.

With over a decade of experience, Ramon has taught hundreds of students how to play and how to become well-rounded musicians.

Eric Pires Gorza is a highly skilled guitarist, audio engineer, and producer with over 15 years of experience in the music industry. Originally from Brazil, Eric has played in a variety of rock, blues, and hard rock cover bands. He also joined an original folk rock band in Brazil, where he played over 100 shows and recorded two albums.

In 2018, Eric moved to Los Angeles to further his music education and earned his degree in Guitar Performance and Audio Engineering from the prestigious Musicians Institute - Hollywood. Since then, he has worked with a wide range of artists as a session musician, recording engineer, bassist, arranger, and producer. Eric has played multiple shows in Los Angeles and is currently a member of Chicago's indie rock band G.M.G., performing regularly at notable venues such as Schubas, The Hideout and Sleeping Village.

Eric's mission as a music teacher is to inspire and empower his students to unlock their full potential as musicians, regardless of their skill level or experience. He believes that everyone has the ability to create and enjoy music, and he's dedicated to providing his students with the guidance and tools they need to achieve their goals.

Summer Camp ignites a fire!

My daughter loves playing guitar and singing, but School of Rock camps ignited a fire in her, and now she is obsessed! She has come home from camp every day this week and continued to practice and learn more songs.
